While very few candidates will have all three, top user-experience designer candidates will have experience in at least two. Visual designers need to have the ability to do beautiful design and to have an outstanding portfolio to showcase their talents. For these folks, a great visual portfolio is a must. UX designers must also have a portfolio that demonstrates their process and how they reached their final design. UX researchers might not have a portfolio but need to have created a document that provides an overview of research and testing that they have done.
